September Notices

Howdy Ranelights.

As the summer holidays draw to a close…

… welcome back to what promises to be a busy month at Ranelagh.

We’re easing back into club life with the Ranelagh Sunday Coffee Club on Sunday 30 Aug, when the Bearcats will join us from 8am. All speeds and abilities catered for, including walking and run-walking, with an alternative session for injured runners. The clubhouse will be open until 11am so please come along for a relaxed end-of-summer catch-up.

Next we will hold our SGM on Tuesday 1 September at the Ranelagh clubhouse, where we hope as many of you will attend to have your say on the next step in our proposed transition to a CIO.

Thereafter there are opportunities to support & volunteer, whether cheering on our River Relay teams on Sunday 6 September or helping out at the Richmond RUN-FEST water station on Sunday 13 September.

And, of course, amid all of this, let’s not forget the running. Our 2026/2027 season gets under way the Thomas Cup handicap on Saturday 26 September, while the Southern Road Relays offer a same-day alternative for those who prefer the road.

However you choose to take part, we hope to see plenty of you during September.

A Message from our president

Dear Members,

Thank you to everyone who joined our Zoom Q&A, submitted questions or has taken the time to engage with the CIO process so far. Your interest and feedback have been greatly appreciated.

Since the Zoom call, the Executive Committee and CIO working group have continued working hard to prepare for the SGM. The Exec has met again and there have been many further conversations to ensure the resolutions and supporting documents are ready for members to consider.

The SGM will take place at the clubhouse on Tuesday 1 September at 7pm, with voting beginning no earlier than 7.30pm. Members will be asked to vote on whether we should apply to the Charity Commission, the first formal step in our proposed transition to a CIO.

This is an important decision for the future of our club, so we warmly encourage as many members as possible to attend, take part in the discussion and have a say. Whatever your views, your participation matters.

Please read the CIO webpage @ @ https://ranelagh-harriers.co.uk/becoming-a-cio; particularly the resolutions listed under Additional Documents, before the meeting.

Thank you, as always, for being part of Ranelagh and for helping us move the club forward together.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Maia rushby

Friday 31 July | Wedding Day 7K

Ranelagh and the Wedding Day 7K proved a very happy match once again, with 62 members among the 621 finishers, a brilliant turnout that earned us the mob prize for the highest club attendance. Congratulations to everyone who ran and helped bring the prize home.

Peter Cook led Ranelagh home in an excellent fourth place, followed by Callum Olden in sixth and Joe Killip in eighth. Ted Mockett completed our scoring quartet in 18th, securing the men’s team prize. The strength continued with David Ready in 19th, James Whistler in 21st and Marc Leyshon in 23rd, giving Ranelagh seven runners inside the top 25.

Lizzie Broughton was our first woman home in 78th place, followed by Aoife Kilpatrick in 88th. Lizzie also finished second in her age category, with Aoife third. Jonathan Moore claimed another category second place, while Ted Mockett and David Ready both placed third. A wonderful evening of racing and club spirit, with plenty of performances worth raising a glass to.

Tuesday 18 August | Ratchford Relay

Eight teams, six 1K laps each and not a baton in sight: the much-loved Ratchford Relay brought another evening of fast running and friendly competition to Richmond Park.

Devised in 1998 by former Club President Frances Ratchford, the event brings women and juniors together in teams of three. This year, Sarah Cogswell, Rachel Revett and Sarah Kinsley claimed victory in 27:02, just 29 seconds ahead of Robyn Smith, Colette Doran and Fiona Atkins. Edel McKeever, Diane Horrigan and Mary Pesci completed the top three in 27:42.

Sarah Cogswell recorded the evening’s two fastest laps in 3:33 and 3:39, with Robyn Smith next quickest in 3:41.

Congratulations to our winners, who can wear their winners’ socks with pride, and a huge thank you to Frances Ratchford, Deborah Blakemore and Suzy Whatmough for organising another wonderful evening.

Do check in on each other, especially as the heat and humidity increases and if you feel faint, dizzy or not well, please slow down or stop running.

Also, please take the appropriate precautions by covering legs, wearing insect repellent and checking for ticks after running in the park. Read more @ https://www.royalparks.org.uk/tick-bites-lyme-disease
