CIO Update: SGM Resolutions Approved

Thank you to everyone who joined us for last night’s SGM.

I’m delighted to confirm that members voted in favour of the resolutions, allowing us to move forward with the next stage of becoming a CIO.

It was really encouraging to see such a strong turnout, and I’m grateful to everyone who listened, asked questions, contributed to the discussion and cast their vote.

Looking back on the evening, I’m struck by the significance of the decision we have made together. The journey to this point began in early 2025, when becoming a CIO was identified as the best way to help the Executive Committee deliver its mandate: growing our membership, welcoming younger members and refreshing our clubhouse.

Becoming a CIO will also give us a structure fit for a modern club, allowing Ranelagh to enter into contracts in its own name and providing appropriate protection for the volunteers who take on responsibilities on behalf of us all.

Throughout the process, members have raised many questions and shared strongly held views. A great deal of time and care has gone into listening, checking the detail and responding as fully and accurately as possible. Some of the conversations have been challenging, but they have also underlined how deeply we all care about Ranelagh and its future.

We could not have reached this point without the dedication and expertise of our CIO team: Deborah, Bruce and Jeremy. Thank you for your commitment, your care and the extraordinary number of hours you have given on behalf of our members.

Thank you also to Pete Vox, who created our ‘Becoming a CIO’ webpage. It has become our one-stop shop for all things CIO, helping members understand why the change is being proposed, what it involves, how the process works and what happens next.

Whatever our views have been along the way, I hope we can now move forward together with renewed energy and optimism.

Becoming a CIO will not change the essence of who we are. We will still be Ranelagh, with the same history, values, friendships and wonderfully collegiate spirit. It will simply give us stronger foundations on which to build, so that we can continue doing great things together and look to the future with confidence.

Here’s to a bright new chapter for Ranelagh.
