March Reminders
Howdy Ranelights.
As we come to the end of March…
… fresh from a big double mob, there’s plenty to look forward to as we turn our attention to April, but first, a big call to action for the whole club.
Over the next few months, we host our three biggest events — the Ranelagh Half (10 May), Ranelagh 10K (21 June) and the brand new Sunset Sprint 3K (3 July) — and we need your help to make them happen.
From marshalling to finish line support, every role matters and no experience is needed — just your time and commitment. Even if you’re racing, an hour or a shift makes a real difference.
Looking ahead, the Surrey Road League continues with Kew 10K this Saturday and Sutton 10K on 19 April. On the home front, the Baker Cup handicap will be on 18 April with entries opening soon.
Whether you’re racing, supporting or volunteering — this is what club spirit looks like. Let’s get behind it.

Volunteer appeal
Ranelagh Events: We need your help to make it happen.
The Ranelagh Half and the Ranelagh 10K (and soon the Sunset Sprint) are some of the best-loved events in our running community’s calendar — and they only happen because of you.
From marshalling out on the course, to helping at registration, to creating that finish-line buzz we’re known for, every role plays a part in delivering the experience that runners remember. It’s not just about making the event run smoothly — it’s about creating the atmosphere, the support, and the sense of occasion that makes our club events unique.
Whether you’ve volunteered before or are thinking about it for the first time, we’d love you to get involved. You don’t need experience — just a willingness to help and be part of the team. Even giving a small amount of time makes a big difference. And it’s a great way to support your clubmates, meet others, and see race day from a completely different perspective.
If you’re racing one event, why not volunteer at another? If you’ve never volunteered before, this is the perfect year to start. Together, let’s make these events something special.

Saturday 7 March: Mob Match vs South London Harriers
Mud, hills and over a century of rivalry came together for the latest clash with South London Harriers — a race where numbers matter as much as speed. With a historic fixture dating back to 1909, strong turnout, and classic “run in the countryside” vibes, it was all about team spirit, camaraderie and getting as many Ranelagh runners over the line as possible.

Saturday 14 March: Mob Match vs Orion Harriers
It’s always been known that Orion are hard to beat at home — and once again, that proved true in the depths of Epping Forest. On a proper cross-country day, with a brutal, mud-soaked course underfoot, it was always going to be a tough ask.
Despite a strong away turnout, the numbers just tipped the other way this time, with 24 Orion runners to Ranelagh’s 23 (21 to score). In the end, it was 386 to Orion and 524 to Ranelagh. Close(ish), but no cigar — and our mob-match streak comes to a grinding halt in the muddiest corners of Epping Forest.
Shout out to Jonny Smith for being 1st Ranelagh Open (2nd overall) and Claire Warner for being 1st Ranelagh Woman (33rd overall). A huge well done to everyone who turned up and gave it everything — there was no shortage of grit, effort or club spirit.
Surrey road League
As the season shifts, it’s time to turn our attention to spring and summer racing. The Surrey Road League has started, offering the perfect opportunity to race together, contribute to the team, and build momentum in the months ahead.
Last year we came agonisingly close to the title, finishing second to Woking — this year the mission is simple: go one better. The series includes eight races, with your best four results counting. Every place matters: the first three women and first four open runners score for the club, so even one more race could put you in the mix individually and for the team.
Read more about how it works here >
The league is already underway and our key home fixtures — the Ranelagh Half on 10 May, the Ranelagh 10K on 21 June and the Sunset Spring 3k on 3 July — are must-do dates.

Friday 13 March: Baker Cup Awards
It was a joy to come together as a club to celebrate this year’s prize winners — and to do so in our own private room at the Turks Head made it feel all the more special. The venue was full of warmth, laughter and that unmistakable Ranelagh spirit, with a real sense of pride in everything that’s been achieved over the past year.
There was an incredible amount of silverware on display (a reminder of both our history and this year’s brilliant performances), alongside some fabulous speeches that struck just the right balance of heartfelt and humorous. Add in close-up magic, great food and drink, and a DJ to round off the evening, it really was a night to remember.
With 70 people in attendance, the event was a sell-out — a testament to how much this night means to the club. A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise and bring it all together, and to all who came along and made it such a special celebration.
Full list of winners will be published soon.
Ranelagh Sunday Coffee Club - CAN YOU HELP?
Now in its fourth outing, the Ranelagh Sunday Coffee Club is proving a real hit — a warm, welcoming space to gather after a run and catch up. We’re very much looking forward to seeing you next on 29 March.
We’re pausing in April due to the London Marathon but to keep it going, we’re looking for volunteers from May onwards to join a simple rota — ideally two or more people each Sunday. The role is straightforward: pastries, teas and coffees, opening and closing the clubhouse — needed once a month, with all expenses covered and plenty of support.
We’re also starting to shape some informal running groups around the Coffee Club, so any extra help would make a real difference.
If you can lend a hand, please email coordinator@ranelagh-harriers.co.uk
Ranelagh’s Next 10 Years
Tuesday 21st April | Clubhouse | From 8pm
Following approval at the 2025 AGM, work has been underway to explore a new committee structure and the potential move to a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation). The Constitution Committee has been carefully reviewing the options to make sure we get this right for the club.
On 21st April, we’ll be sharing the latest updates, what it all means for Ranelagh, and our plans for the years ahead — including exciting ideas to make the clubhouse more social, more versatile, and even better for training, events and community use.
Come along, hear more, ask questions, and have your say. Free drinks and nibbles included — we’d love to see you there.
Training
Woo hoo - the days are getting slightly longer but it’s still not bright enough to leave our lights at home. And even though we’re enjoying some lovely sunshine, it’s still a wee bit chilly.
Therefore a reminder to continue wearing appropriate clothing - hi-vis/reflective, warm clothing — not just during training, but also when travelling to and from the clubhouse or track. Plus don’t forget your lights or head/chest torches - staying visible is key to staying safe.
For Tuesdays’ sessions, please meet at our clubhouse for 7pm. Find the latest training schedules here >
For Thursdays’ track, please meet at Osterley track for 7.30pm. Find the latest training schedules here >
