Surrey Road League
With cross country wrapped up…
…. it’s time to turn our attention to the roads!
Our club competes in the annual Surrey Road League competition and this season brings a refreshed format; with some races added, others removed, and an earlier-than-usual start with the first fixture - the Valentine’s 10K - taking place this Sunday.
How does it work?
Clubs compete across eight races from February to July, with each club’s best four scores counting towards the final league standings.
For women, it’s 3 to score
For men, it’s 4 to score
The sum of those finishing positions gives us a placing for each race — the lower the score, the better the placing. League points are then awarded based on how many clubs take part. For example, if 30 clubs enter, the winning club scores 30 points, second scores 29, and so on.
Alongside the team competition, there are individual league standings across multiple categories, scored on a similar best-of-four basis.
Don’t worry about any of this though; the key thing to remember is - you don’t have to race everything to make your contribution. Turning out when you can still really counts.
Which races are included?
This season’s fixtures are:
Valentines 10k – 15 February
Kew 10k – 28 March (now sold out)
Sutton 10k – 19 April
Dorking 10 miles – 7 June
Ranelagh Sunset Sprint 3k – 3 July (Opening soon!)
Elmbridge 10k – 19 July

How do I enter?
Unlike cross country, road race entries aren’t subsidised by our club, so entry is entirely up to you and done directly with each race organiser. If you’re already planning to race, the Road League is a great way to make those efforts count towards something bigger.
Is this the same as our club Road Grand Prix?
Not quite. Our club’s internal Road Grand Prix competition uses a similar set of races but has a different scoring format, age categories, and prizes. We’ll be sharing full details of this season’s Road GP very soon. so watch this space.
Why get involved?
Whether you’re chasing performances, loving the buzz of race day, or just want another reason to get on a start line, the Surrey Road League is a brilliant way to stay motivated through the spring and summer.
You can race a little or a lot, contribute to the team, and enjoy being part of something bigger. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the captains at ranelagh.women@gmail.com and ranelagh.men@gmail.com.
We’d love to see as many of you join in as possible.
