CIO Update: From Our President

Thank you for your engagement with the process and for all the feedback we’ve received.

The Executive Committee looks forward to welcoming you to a Special General Meeting on 1 September @ 7pm, where members will have the opportunity to discuss and vote on the resolutions seeking approval to apply to the Charity Commission.

If the resolutions are passed, this will mark the first formal step towards establishing Ranelagh Harriers as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Subject to approval by the Charity Commission, the club’s assets would then be transferred to the new charity.

Following the questions and feedback received, we will be making three minor amendments to the version of the constitution that was presented at the last AGM:

  • We’ve included provision for proxy voting, at the discretion of the Trustees.

  • We’ve increased the permitted number of Trustees from 4 - 6 to 4 - 12, giving future leaders the flexibility to bring in additional expertise if needed.

  • We’ve refined the wording of the Reserved Matters so that the club can respond flexibly to unforeseen circumstances. For example, the Executive Committee changed the route of the Baker Cup this year following a request from The Royal Parks.

These changes are being incorporated and we will have the updated constitution ready for circulation by Tuesday 18 August 2026. Thank you for your patience.

The SGM will begin at 7pm in the clubhouse on Tuesday 1 September. We warmly encourage anyone who would like to take part in the discussion to join us from the start.

Voting will not begin before 7.30pm, allowing members who are happy with the proposals and would like to train beforehand to join us in time for the vote.

In the meantime, please enjoy the rest of the summer. We look forward to seeing you on 1 September for what will be an important moment in the history of our club.
