August 2024

Howdy Ranelights.

Summer is here – woo hoo! And what a summer it’s shaping up to be; especially with the international sporting fixtures we’ve been privileged to have had and still have to enjoy: Euros, Tour de France, F1, Olympics, Paralympics etc. In Ranelagh-land, we’re almost coming to the end of our 2023/2024 season but there’s still the odd fixture for some of us. But before we get into that, we’re delighted to announce:

💙 ‘Last Tuesday of the Month’ social | Tuesday 27th August @ 8.15pm: ALL ARE WELCOME to our inaugural ‘Last Tuesday of the Month’ social at our clubhouse straight after training. We’re going to keep it simple by stocking up our brand new fridge with drinks and ordering food as required. With an honour bar system in operation, the aim is to use our clubhouse as a space to chill, chat and to get to know friends old and new. SEE YOU THERE!

Upcoming fixtures:

🏃‍♀️ Ratchford Relay | Tuesday 6 July @ 7pm: Ranelagh ladies’ favourite event; open to all women and juniors in the club. The course is a 1km loop near Petersham Gate, with teams of 3 taking on 6 loops in total, with a ‘fast’ runner doing 3, ‘medium’ runner doing 2 and an ‘improving’ runner doing 1 loop respectively. Just turn up on the day, but it would be very helpful if you could email ranelagh.women@gmail.com to let them know in advance or simply respond to the Teamer invite.

🍺 Arethusa Mile | Wednesday evenings until 11 September: From what we can gather it’s free to enter, and all you do is turn up & run your guts out for 1 mile. There’s a version with alcohol and a version without. You’ve been warned: https://arethusamile.pythonanywhere.com/

🎽 River Relay 1st September: The River Relay is a baton relay run over five stages from Boveney to Kingston-upon-Thames, finishing at the Hawker Centre. The stages range from 4.4 to 6.5 miles over friendly terrain and the event is an excellent introduction to relay racing. A full map of the course, with details of the five stages is available here >

We're hoping to field 2 mixed teams of 5 runners (with at least one woman). We also need drivers, and more importantly drivers with CARS, to drive the teams around. Everyone is welcome to run, and the event is suitable for all abilities. Please note that all runners must be 18 years +

Closing date for entries is 25th August so please sign up NOW @ https://bit.ly/riverrelay2024 👈 Any questions, please contact Hadi Khatamizadeh or email coordinator@ranelagh-harriers.co.uk
