The Course

Starting in Ham, then on through to Richmond and Twickenham via the Thames Towpath, turning at Kingston Bridge to head back into Ham.

  • From the start, head down Riverside Drive, turn right at Hardwicke Road, right again at Beaufort Road to join Burnell Avenue, then left onto Dysart Avenue and then right to Dukes Avenue.

At Ham Parade, turn right onto Richmond Road to join Lower Ham Road, passing the Hawker Centre. At the Half Mile Tree, take a sharp right onto the upper Thames Towpath towards Teddington Lock Footbridge. Continue past Ham House car park and Petersham Meadows, until Buccleuch Gardens; then left in front of the small café, staying on the tarmac path at all times.

Continue until just before Richmond Bridge, then turn right at Bridge House Gardens, and then left onto the bridge at Richmond Road.

  • From Richmond Road, turn left onto Cambridge Park, then rejoin Richmond Road at the junction with Beaufort Road. At Twickenham Civic Centre, turn left down Church Street, left again onto Church Lane down to the river along The Embankment, opposite Eel Pie Island.

By Diamond Jubilee Gardens, leave the river along Wharf Lane, then left briefly onto King Street before following Cross Deep past Radnor Gardens. Turn left onto Strawberry Vale, which becomes Twickenham Road and in turn Manor Road. Turn left onto Ferry Road near Teddington Lock.

Turn right onto Broom Road, which becomes Lower Teddington Road. Turn left at High Street onto Kingston Bridge (staying on the left hand side).

  • Stay on Kingston Bridge and rejoin Horse Fair, before turning left by the back of John Lewis to join the Thames Towpath once more. From there head into Canbury Gardens, turning right to join the start of Lower Ham Road.

After the Half Mile Tree, the route retraces the first two miles of the race route, in reverse. Pass the entrance to the Hawker Centre before heading left onto Dukes Avenue, then left again onto Dysart Avenue before turning right to Burnell Avenue.

Turn right turn onto Beaufort Road, left onto Hardwicke Road, then rejoin Dukes Avenue on the left. This becomes Riverside Drive, alongside Ham Lands, with a right hand bend which leads to the finish on grass (100 metres).

  • All Ranelagh Harriers events will adhere to the UKA Rules for Competition. Minimum entry age is 17 years old on race day.

  • We are an inclusive club and welcome runners of all abilities. Due to licence restrictions, there is a 3-hour cut-off from when the race starts. Please email events@ranelagh-harriers.co.uk if this is a concern.

  • Roads will not be closed to traffic. Please keep to the left-hand side, run on the pavement where possible, and observe the Highway Code. Please also be mindful of other road users, runners, cyclists, and spectators.

  • In the event of unexpected maintenance or flooding, well-marked course diversions may be introduced, which will be announced as soon as possible.

  • UK Athletics (UKA) rules prohibit the use of in-ear and over-ear headphones in ALL running events. The Race Director reserves the right to disqualify any runner failing to observe this important restriction.

  • Regrettably, the course is not suitable for wheelchair users as it varies, and is uneven in stretches. Blind or partially-sighted runners may be accompanied, but other runners must not be accompanied or followed by non-race participants (eg: a runner or bicycle).

  • Dogs are not permitted, except where an exemption has been granted by the Race Director for a medical assistance dog.
