Henty Relay

The Henty Relay Handicap was first realised in 1966…

… by club member Chris Henty as a one-off event to fill a winter XC fixtures gap.

It would have remained thus had it not been revived in 1975 as a permanant event, duly named after its founder. So delighted was Mr Henty that he donated a wooden statue of a Kiwi bird; his logic being that the trophy aptly reflected the fact that he'd emigrated to New Zealand by then.

The race comprises 6 laps of approximately 1.3 miles (2.1 km) per lap. Each lap is an clockwise loop around Sidmouth Woods, starting & finishing at the manhole @ https://what3words.com/hips.couple.spit ⬅️

From the entrants, teams of 3 will be formed by the handicapper, comprising a ‘fast‘, ‘medium‘ and an ‘improving‘ runner, to realise teams of more or less equal overall speed.

The fast runner runs 3 laps, the medium 2 laps and the improving runner 1 lap of the course. The running order is at the discretion of each team.

This event is open to all ages & all speeds. U11s must run with an adult.

Entry is FREE and friends, family & guests may also enter, but everyone must fill in this form @ https://forms.gle/WEBNQYPMXHcS8zcz9 by 23:59 on Friday 18 July, to allow the club handicapper time to do their job.

Kindly note that no on-the-day entries are permitted.

Timings:
• 6.15pm: Team allocations & numbers @ top of Sidmouth Woods https://what3words.com/hips.couple.spit ⬅️
• In the event of rain, we may relocate to the clubhouse. This will be announced as soon as we have a better idea of what the weather is on the day.
• 7pm: First runner from each team is set off; handover to teammates at the manhole.
• 8pm: Anticipated time all runners will come through.
• Results and prize giving at the start/finish; followed by drinks at The Fox & Hound after.
