WELFARE tEAM

Introduction

Looking out for each other, on and off the track

At Ranelagh Harriers, the wellbeing and safety of all our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and families is our top priority. We want everyone in our club’s community to feel safe, supported, and welcome.

Our Welfare Team - headed by our Club Welfare Officers - are here to listen, provide advice, guidance, and support to members of all ages with any safeguarding or conduct issues.

Your Club Welfare Officers are:

  • Claire Warner

  • Phil Roberts

Both run with Intermediate 1 on Tuesdays, and can be found at the track most Thursdays.

They have completed training with England Athletics and follow UK Athletics’ policies and procedures, so you can be confident that in the event something needs raising, your concerns will be handled appropriately.

Whether that involves safeguarding issues, concerns about conduct, discrimination, or simply if something doesn’t feel right to you.

our aims

A positive club environment where wellbeing comes first

We want every Ranelagh Harriers member to feel safe, supported, and respected. We aim to do this by:

  • Promoting a safe and positive environment for all members.

  • Providing support if you have any worries about yourself or someone else.

  • Responding to and manage safeguarding or welfare concerns in line with England Athletics policies.

  • Offering guidance on codes of conduct, equality, and inclusive practice.

  • Working closely with coaches and committee members to ensure everyone is treated fairly and with respect.

WHo we Are

Claire

I joined Ranelagh in 2013 to get fit, and maybe make a friends or two.

I wasn’t expecting running to become such a key focus for me or for the running community to provide such an active social life and support network.

Over the years Ranelagh has become like another family. I have made so many wonderful friends who have entertained, provided company, valuable advice, and even a shoulder to cry on at times.

My running has gone from strength to strength and I have enjoyed countless running-based holidays and weekends with my running buddies.

After 12 years of happy membership it felt right to become part of the welfare team. I’m passionate about ensuring Ranelagh continues to be the safe and welcoming environment that I found when I first walked timidly through the door of the clubhouse all those years ago.

It is important to me that all members feel seen and supported and if I can help improve someone’s experience of the club even by just a small amount, I would be delighted to do so.

Phil

I’ve been a member since 2012. I love running and just doing it makes me happy. It also makes me feel younger than I am.

I feel the welfare of our members is instinctively everyone’s concern, not just something for one or two people to think about.

In 2018 I had a brush with cancer. I was lucky and things were sorted out with surgery; which also meant several weeks off running on doctor’s orders. They were scary times and I was really touched when people from the club reached out and checked in on how I was doing.

So I do care about your welfare and I know how much of a difference it made to me belonging to Ranelagh, where we look out for and support each other.

That’s why we’re here to support that - to help our club be the best it can at caring for and supporting all members - old and new, young or not so young, competitive or not, active, injured, or unwell.

After all, we are all Ranelagh.

get in touch

We run better when we care for each other.

If something’s on your mind or you just need someone to talk to, please reach out at any time.

You can email Claire or Phil at ranelaghwelfare@gmail.com or catch either of them at the club on training nights.

You can also speak to any coach or committee member, and they’ll help you get in touch with them.

Remember, no concern is too small. If something doesn’t feel right, or things are a bit tough at the moment, our Welfare Team are here to listen and support you.
