London & Spring Marathon Training

Ranelagh Harriers have been given 2 club entries…

…to next year’s London Marathon on 27th April.

Both places will be awarded by way of a ballot. Any member who wishes to apply to enter the ballot, will need to meet ONE of the following 2 criteria:

1. Has taken part in at least 3 Ranelagh races this year, either Surrey League, mob matches, club handicaps or a combination, OR
2. Has volunteered at a minimum of 3 Ranelagh races this year (either cross country or road events)

To ensure that we give people who have not recently had a chance to run the London Marathon, applicants also need to meet both of the following criteria:

A. Has not taken part in the London Marathon in the last 5 years, AND
B. Has not obtained a championship/Good For Age qualifying time in the last 5 years.

Should you wish to apply, please email ranelaghpresident@gmail.com by 6pm on Monday 30 December. Successful applicants will be informed by email on Tuesday 31 December.

Starting January 2025, to help you build the speed and endurance you need to get race-day ready, we’re launching a…

dedicated spring marathon training programme

Overseen by Simon Martin, Advanced 2 Coach, the tailored programme will comprise:

1. Marathon-focused sessions (Tuesday evenings): Join the group suitable to your pace & experience:

• Advanced 1 & 2: Led by Simon Martin, Advanced 2 Coach
• Intermediate 1 & 2: Led by Maia Rushby, Inter 1 Leader
• Intermediate 3: Led by Deborah Blakemore, Inter 3 Coach

2. Track Sessions (Thursday evenings): To continue building your speed and form.
3. Structured long runs (weekends): Run it solo or team up informally with other members

Even if a marathon isn’t your goal, marathon-style training can benefit all runners by building stamina and versatility. All members are welcome to join the marathon programme for the season or simply drop in for sessions as you wish.

Please note

1. Intermediate 1, 2 and 3 will continue to offer their usual high-quality group training.
2. Advanced 2 can join Advanced 1 or Intermediate 1 for non-marathon specific sessions.
3. Advanced 1 will focus on training for cross-country and shorter races.

Should you have any questions or queries, or if you would like to join Ranelagh to participate in the spring marathon training programme, please email coordinator@ranelagh-harriers.co.uk 👈
