What and who are the Junior sessions for?

All abilities are welcome to our Junior sessions and the emphasis of the sessions is on age-appropriate development, keeping it fun and sociable. Our coaching is centred on each individual’s needs, with the goal of helping our juniors to reach their potential. We run two groups, catering for children up to 13 years old and between 13 to 20. 

A typical Tuesday night session format:

  • Warm up easy run (approx 2k)
  • Drills, form & dynamic stretching (10mins)
  • Sessions cover interval training, hill training, speed endurance, speed work, race craft
  • Cool down easy run or walk back (approx 2k)
  • End with core work
  • Time to socialise


A typical Thursday night track session format (emphasis on form, speed and speed endurance):

  • 800m warm up
  • 10-15 mins drills & dynamic stretching with some resistance strength work
  • 10 x 100m 95% effort walk back recovery, or 6 x 200 hard effort 30 seconds recovery between efforts
  • Cool down 800m easy
  • End with core work
  • Time to socialise


Where and when?

On Tuesday nights the Juniors meet at the clubhouse in Petersham. The younger group (under 13) meet at 6pm, the older group (13-20) meet at 7pm. Sessions typically run for one hour.  

On Thursday nights sessions take place at Osterley Track, meeting at 7pm and running until 8pm.

Who runs the training?

The Juniors’ sessions are coordinated by Colin Brett and the coaching team consists of Colin, Maia Rushby and Katie Walton. All of our Junior coaches are UK Athletics certified and have DBS enhanced certificates.
