Upcoming events: Thomas Cup & Page Cup

Howdy Rane-lights!

Can you believe that come this September, we will be into our 141st season?! That’s 141 years of Ranelagh Harriers since its founding in 1881, making us one of the oldest athletics clubs in the country 💪

Asides from the earliest recorded runs in Wimbledon Common, our club has made Richmond Park 🦌 its spiritual home since the mid-1930s and we remain privileged to be able to hold our events here. So what better way to start off our next season than with two of our most popular club races: The Thomas Cup and The Page Cup 🏆

💙 THOMAS CUP 3rd September @ 1.30pm: Traditionally the first cross-country handicap race of our race calendar, this 3.85 mile (6 km) event is open to all club members. The winner will receive the Thomas Cup which is an ornate trophy originally won by Sid Thomas (one of our club’s greatest runners) in a head-to-head 10 mile race held at Old Trafford Manchester against his arch rival Will Parry of Salford Harriers on 23rd May 1889. Sid, by the way, was the convincing winner in 54:55!

👍 VOLUNTEERS: We really need volunteers to help with marshalling, time-keeping & numbers at both the Thomas & the Page Cup. So if you’re not planning to run, please consider volunteering to help out. Duties are very light and it’s a fun day out, with lots of opportunity to cheer your friends along 👏

If you’re able to volunteer for either event, please contact Andy Bickerstaff by emailing andy.bickerstaff@goodrunguide.co.uk or Narissa Vox at narissa.vox@gmail.com 📧
