143rd Season: Thomas Cup & Page Cup

Just wanted to send through a few notices & announcements for your attention:

Depending on permissions & licences, they may change at short notice so please check back regularly.

๐Ÿ’™ THOMAS CUP 2nd September @ 1.30pm: Traditionally the first cross-country handicap race of our race calendar, this 3.85 mile (6 km) event is open to all club members. The winner will receive the Thomas Cup: an ornate trophy originally won by Sid Thomas (one of our clubโ€™s greatest runners) in a head-to-head 10 mile race held at Old Trafford Manchester against his arch rival Will Parry of Salford Harriers on 23rd May 1889. Sid, by the way, was the convincing winner in 54:55!

โฐ Approximate timings:
12.15 – 12.30pm: Number collection at the clubhouse
1pm: Club photo at the usual spot (please come even if you’re not running)
1.30pm: Race start (opposite Pembroke Lodge)
2.30pm-ish: Prize-giving & BBQ (see below) at the clubhouse

๐Ÿ’› After the Thomas Cup, our Social Secretaries Rebecca & Hadi will be holding our summer BBQ at the clubhouse from 2.30pm onwards. As well as the Thomas Cup presentation, there will be the annual prize giving for trophies won over last season – so please join us for the celebrations.

๐Ÿ’™ PAGE CUP 30th September @ 3pm: This 5 mile (8 km) cross-country handicap event is open to all club members. The Page Cup was donated to the club in 1883 by W.C. Page Esq, and is one of the club’s oldest trophies. Prizes will be awarded to the first 3 finishers, the 3 fastest men and the 3 fastest women.

๐Ÿ‘ VOLUNTEERS: We really need volunteers to help with marshalling, time-keeping & numbers at both the Thomas & the Page Cup. So if you’re not planning to run on either day, please consider volunteering to help out. Duties are very light and it’s a fun day out, with lots of opportunity to cheer your friends along ๐Ÿ‘
