Arrrr, it be ye Ranelagh Pirate Rundown

Ahoy there, me hearties! ’twas a calm week for the good ship Ranelagh. Yet ye bilge rats still sailed a grand total of 5,800 leagues!

🏴‍☠️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 A crew of hill-lubbers weighed anchor and hoisted the mizzen for Eryri (Snowdonia) and Ras Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon race) this weekend. The blasted weather be cruel, and the race ’twas cut short to a bit over half distance and elevation. Well sailed Quartermaster Mark Herbert (who claimed the booty in 50:40 6th M40), Captain James Riley (50:42, 4th M45), and Powder Monkey James Ritchie (58:02, 10th M50), together they grabbed 7th men’s crew. The scurvy seadogs then made the most of their voyage by finally visitin’ the highest point in England and Wales the next day. Aided by Captain Suzy Whatmough and Magnus, the ship’s dog, they also raided the local parkrun (where a very tall tale about being the first mate was told by James Ritchie, since the actual 1st scallywag didn’t have a barcode… arrrr).

⚓️ Also racing away from the ship was Second Mate Alun Thomas, navigatin’ the treacherous waters of the Ilkley half marathon in 1:36. The old salt told harrowing’ tales, bandying around words like “tough” and “#houseofpain.”

🏴‍☠️ Less adventurous privateers dropped anchor at Chipstead and boarded the Elmore 7 (a 7 nautical mile road race, mostly on rural shipping lanes). Yo-ho-ho to:

‘One-Eyed’ Chris Davidson 40:10 (claiming the metaphorical bottle o’ rum)
‘Blackbeard’ Jonathan Smith 40:38
‘Peg Leg’ Mick Lane 48:58
William ‘Cutlass’ Griffin 53:02
‘Dread’ Stephen Logue 57:01
‘Bootstrap’ Carol Aikin 01:01:34

⚓️ Imagine, ye be on a voyage, and ye decide to go diggin’ for treasure at the Eden Project parkrun (ye get free entry after all!), Ye might believe a sub-17 parkrun would make ye Captain… However, ye be surprised by the scourge of the seven seas, Ollie Garrod, who came out top dog. Arrr well, Master Gunner Eirin McDaid, 16:51 is still a mighty fine time. Another prize worth mentionin’ is Sailing Master Russell Holt’s 4th P14 aboard the fair ship Crane parkrun – takes precise navigation to pull off this feat regularly matey!

🏴‍☠️ Plunder of the week goes to Boatswain Paul Christian, who captured an impressive double rainbow 🌈🌈. Shiver me timbers, that be a sight to behold!

⚓️ SIGN UP, SIGN UP, SIGN UP for ‘Mad’ Dave Lawley’s cRaZy Track Meet (see link on other social media as Strava won’t let me post it). Tell ye shipmates (even scallywags are welcome), the more crew the merrier! Walking’ the plank optional. It’s Sunday August 6th, 1pm-5pm at Osterley Sports & Athletics Centre,120 Wood Ln, Isleworth TW7 5FG
