Ranelagh Strava Rundown Week 118

A week out from the London Marathon, the Rundown team were expecting a quiet one. And so it was until the weekend when the week’s activity exploded with races across South West London and Europe!

🔶 A very quiet Monday Ranelagh running-wise, saw Bruce McLaren start marathon training. On Friday he then wondered if 5.5 miles at marathon pace should be ‘that hard?’ Leave yourself three weeks next time Bruce…

🔷 Marathon training is a dangerous business. Like the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Owen Delaney suggested his ‘tis but a niggle’. I hope it’s less of a niggle than the Black Knight suffered Owen.

🔶 Many of us have been enjoying the fine weather. Nicola Douglas chased the sunset (slowly), Bruce thought it was ‘too nice not to,’ the parts 1 and 2 reminiscent of the prog rock singles which he seems fond of and Aoife Kilpatrick ‘just can’t resist late summer evenings in the park.’

🔷 Kathy Allison Henry suffered with Garmin’s ‘motivational’ chat being told she was ‘unproductive’. Don’t worry Kathy, we’ve all been there. Great idea to suggest programming it to say ‘you go girl!’ or ‘smashing it’ 😀

🔶 Some cracking efforts at parkrun this week. Amrut Sharma ran his 350th and Alun Thomas his 300th. Congratulations to David Ready, Kelly Thomas and Sam Slater for shiny new PBs of 16:52, 32:35 and 19:40. Smashing sub 17 runs from Jonathan Smith and Nick Twoomey too!

🔷 On the marathon front we saw a very fast and hugely gritty run from Nick Impey in Berlin to snatch a 23s PB (2:28:11), a first place in the Richmond Park Marathon from the in-form Gareth Williams and an official PB of 3:29 from Jarryd Hillhouse in Madrid.

🔶 We also saw Halves from Chris Cato, Eric Fat, Ann Kearey, Aoife Kilpatrick, Marco Perinelli (all Ealing), Rebecca Bissell, Alberto Esguevillas, Gavin Hillhouse (all Harry Hawkes), Simon Martin, Louis Randall (both Windsor, Simon pacing 1:45) and Nick Twoomey (New Forest). In the more niche 20k category, Eirin McDaid had a strong run off ‘zero training’. Editor’s note: Nock Twoomey actually ran sub 17 in the New Forest 5k not parkrun
