Ranelagh Strava Rundown Week 113

A relatively quiet week mid summer, but you’ve all be running in the 4 corners of the country, and indeed beyond – and mostly seem in fine fettle with over 3,846 miles clocked up in 761 activities.

The Highlights:

🔷 The event of the week of course was Dave’s Crazy Track Meet today at Osterley Track. I’m sure the results will be out soon, but it was an absolutely wonderful celebration of everything Ranelagh and fun for all the family. Many thanks to Dave, Rick and all the team involved in organising it – the Elimination Miles in particular contained some tactical masterclasses, the Team Challenge Relay that combined skipping, hurdling, egg and spoon racing, basket ball bouncing, running with a ball between the knees and a final sprint including 10x round a cone was a true highlight, and Backward 100m was as predicted, a lottery!

Field events also ran through the afternoon, which consisted of a long jump, nerf throw, and slip-and-slide, with a true practice makes perfect approach – as many times as you like and the highest distance counts! Once the scores were all tallied up, the wonderful Blue team (Perry family, Obi Morris, Ellie Lawley and Ross McDonald) took home the bountiful prizes.

Taking the place of the traditional end of track meet 4x100m relay, was of course, the Beer Mile. (It wouldn’t really be Ranelagh if we also didn’t measure drinking prowess.) Mark Herbert took home the honours (having also run a PB at The Big Half in the Morning) with a sub 8-minute clocking, and we were treated to the heart-warming sight of Gareth Williams and Ellie Lawley rounding off the field with a nice chat down the final 100m, only to well and truly throw down the gauntlet to each other with 15 metres to go and cross the line sprinting but in a dead heat for last place.

🔶 The second biggest event of the day was the Big Half and Ranelagh were very well represented there too. Nick Impey led us home in 1:11, including a couple of stops with breathing difficulties – hope all’s ok there. Mark Herbert ran a PB for 1:18, Closely followed by Bob Tinsley in 1:20 and Paul Doyle in 1:23. Jarryd Hillhouse knocked 1:47 off his previous best time with a 1.26:59 and was followed home by Bill Neely in 1:28. Alex Ring didn’t quite run a PB, but was happy with a 1:32 clocking. Ciaran O’Donnell ran 1:50 and Fiona Pugh 1:56! Great running by everyone, and by all accounts running is now officially back with a mass race post covid! Yippee!

🔷 On Wednesday Night Cordy Parker gave it her all for a Road 5k PB at Battersea Park, coming home in 18:08,

🔶 A total of 116 of us took park in parkruns this Saturday, with first finishes going to Jonathan Smith at Banstead Woods, Grace Munro at ODP, Dave Lawley at Osterley, and Pat Wright and Ria Woodfield making it a his-and-hers first finish at Ludlow.

Lousie Wapshott ran her 100th Parkrun at Crane Park – congratulations on the milestone, And Sam Slater ran his first ever parkrun at Bushy! Notably, also at Bushy Liam Joyce ran a PB – 18:28! Great work Liam.
