Ranelagh Harriers Mob Match vs Orion Harriers: 4 March @ 3pm

Calling all Ranelagh Harriers – can we emulate our recent ‘home’ mob success against South London Harriers, but this time against Orion Harriers?

First run in 1920, last year’s mob match saw us having to hand over the Harold Lee Cup after we were ‘thrashed comprehensively‘ (as reported by Pheidippides in last year’s e-News) on a tough course set in the wonderfully scenic, mud-ridden, bog-strewn, quagmire that was Epping Forest.

This year we have the advantage of home ground but we require the efforts of every able-bodied Ranelagh Harrier to take on the Orion coach-load.

So once again, another call to arms to all Ranelagh Harriers to come for a ‘good run in the country side‘, to support our club and for the chance to chant (shout, holler – take your pick) the Club Cry:

Hobble Gobble
Razzle Dazzle
Zis Boom Bah
Ranelagh Ranelagh
Rah Rah Rah.

🔷 Registration & numbers is at 2pm by the start/finish by Sidmouth Woods (opposite Pembroke Lodge). NOTE: We will NOT be doing numbers at the clubhouse.
🔶 PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY to allow plenty of time for registration & numbers. Pins will be available.

The course is two laps of the Thomas Cup route (see map below) over cross country terrain, covering approx. 7.6 miles or 12.2km.

If you’re not able to run, you can still support our club by volunteering to marshal. The success of all our club events, big or small, hinges primarily on the support of volunteers and marshals. We’ve all benefited from the dedication of event marshals & coordinators, so please consider giving back a teeny bit by volunteering.

Please get in touch if you can help out – we really need you!

💙 TIMINGS: Approx. 2.45pm until 4.45pm (latest)
💛 SKILLS: No experience necessary, just your support and commitment
💙 ROLES: Both out on course and also at the race start/finish.

Whatever time you can give will be immensely helpful, so don’t delay, please email Andy Bickerstaff: or Narissa Vox: ASAP 🥰

The last word lies with the illustrious David Wright, who stated waaaay back in the Ranelagh e-News 1 November 2000:

I’m just a boring old fart who has had nothing better to do on winter Saturday afternoons for the last 25 years than run mob matches. As the club fixture list used to state “all members are expected to compete in mob matches”. I always thought that this was a condition of membership and was too frightened to challenge it!

It’s now 2023 and he’s still running mob matches for Ranelagh, so that makes 48 years and counting…

See you all there!
