Ranelagh Membership Subscription Categories and Fees – from 1 April 2023
As most members are aware we held a Special General Meeting (SGM) on Tuesday 14 March 2023 to update the membership categories we have, and to update the membership subscriptions rates.
We are pleased to say that 30 members attended the meeting and we also had contributions from several members who emailed their thoughts in advance. All views were heard, and robust discussions took place – our thanks to all those who took part.
The following new Membership Categories and Subscription Fees will apply for the new membership year, starting 1st April 2023:
- Senior Member: £75 (increase of £25)
- Under 30 Member: £20 (unchanged for U25s/Junior) *
- 2nd Claim Member: £30 (increase of £10)
- Non-Running Member: £10 (unchanged)
- Family Membership: £140 (increase of £50 for 2 senior members – discount remains at £10)
* Extended from under 25 to anyone under 30, includes Juniors, as well as any Students under 30. This is a reduction of £10 for non-students aged between 20 and 30, and also a £30 reduction for senior men under 30.
The Executive Committee’s aim was to simplify the membership categories and to introduce fair and reasonable membership subscriptions that allow the club to cover its costs. The changes agreed at the SGM should help the club achieve this aim. Some membership categories were redundant e.g. we don’t use the Associate category and in practice any discounts agreed with individual members in financial hardship did not pay the £15 in the Senior Unwaged category.
However, we recognise that broad categories do not cover individual circumstances, especially with regard to financial hardship. Whilst the new Senior membership may be less than £1.50 a week, we are very much aware that the 50p a week increase could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for some individual members.
Similarly, whilst age and location are not necessarily indicators of ability to pay membership fees, we recognise that the removal of Retired and over 60 (was £25), as well as Country (was £10) memberships, could be a significant financial burden for some.
Therefore we reiterate the message the club has always had, especially during Covid, and was part of the notification to the SGM – We would be horrified if ANY Ranelagh member were to leave the club because they could no longer manage their membership subscription fees.
So we encourage anyone in this situation to please contact the Club Secretary (Trevor Maguire at firstname.lastname@example.org), Club Treasurer (Chris Read at email@example.com) or Club President (Ted Mockett at firstname.lastname@example.org). We will be more than happy to agree an appropriate fee/payment period for any member and will treat any such contact with the utmost confidence.
The full SGM meeting minutes will be published after approval at the next Committee Meeting.
