Notices & Announcements : May & June 2024

Howdy Ranelights.

Seriously, where has the month of May gone? Possibly swept away by this fickle weather we’ve been experiencing. But with June less than a week away, here’s hoping for blue skies and sunshine to herald the start of summer.

We might be coming to the final few months of our fixtures list, but there’s still plenty to tempt all you racing fiends out there…

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Coad Cup | Tuesday 28th May @ 7pm: Roll up, roll up – it’s time for another handicap*. The Coad Cup is our club’s mid-summer (ish) fixture; featuring 5 undulating cross country miles in sunny Richmond Park. Full event details @ ๐Ÿ‘ˆ Prizes and results will be at the start/finish (eg: NOT back at the clubhouse) and after we’ll head to the Roebuck for refreshments.

Entry is free but you MUST sign up @ ๐Ÿ‘ˆ by 11.30pm Friday 24th May to give the club handicappers time to do their job ๐Ÿ’ช

If you’re not running, and can volunteer, please email Narissa Vox ๐Ÿ‘ˆ ASAP

* Wondering how a handicap works? Each runner is awarded an individual start time by the club handicapper (based on average 5k time & recent races). The runner with the most generous handicap is set off first, then everyone follows, based on their allotted time. If done accurately, all competitors should in theory finish at roughly the same time.

๐Ÿ’™ Anyone can run but prizes are only given to members who’ve run 3 Ranelagh club events (eg: mob match, other handicaps, Ranelagh 10k & half marathon) prior.
๐Ÿ’› The first finisher (non-guest) receives the Coad Cup (
๐Ÿ’™ Medals will be awarded to the 1st 3 finishers, the 3 astest open, and the 3 fastest women.

Featuring 5 miles through scenic Wimbledon Common, the start is at the iconic windmill and offers a traffic free route. Large free car park at the start. Each finisher receives what is undeniably the ugliest design ever seen on a mug, chocolate bar and fruit.

๐Ÿ’ช Thames Hare & Hounds Parkland Relays | Wednesday 5th June @ 7pm: If you don’t fancy Wimbledon Common, you can always run in Richmond Park instead. ๐Ÿ† Ranelagh Harriers Richmond 10k | Saturday 23rd June @ 9am: Our ever popular road 10k, hosted by ourselves, featuring a fast & fun route around Ham and the towpath. Entries are still open but don’t delay as numbers are filling up quickly.

If you’re not running, we’d be grateful for your time & support in volunteering. Further details below.

๐Ÿ’™ VOLUNTEER FOR THE RANELAGH 10K: Your club REALLY needs you ๐Ÿซต Our next road event, the Ranelagh 10k (23 June @ 9am) is dependent on the support as many volunteers as possible, for a variety of marshalling & start/finish duties.

If you can help, even for a little bit, please go to ๐Ÿ‘ˆ ASAP to fill in this Google Form.

PS: if you’ve already filled in this form previously to say you can help at the 10k, you don’t have to do it again.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ The Ranelagh Big Kit Swap:ย Have you got lots of kit or trainers taking up space that you donโ€™t use or want anymore? Well, we can help you find it a new home, and in the process help save our planet a wee bit.

Please bring your un-used or pre-loved kit (either trainers or clothing) to our clubhouse on the 18th June at 8pm (after training). Not only might we be able to find it a new home, you never know you might pick up something for yourself!

Swapping is the name of the game, so there’s NO BUYING OR SELLING; simply giving or receiving ๐Ÿฅฐ all together now, awwwwwww….. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Please only bring clean, usable kit that is in reasonable condition. For obvious reasons, we cannot accept any rubbish or unusable kits. Anything left at the end will be recycled or given to charity. Any questions, please contact Rick Jenner.

๐ŸŽˆ Stragglers Handicap Summer Series: The Stragglers Juniors are organising a series of runs for younger runners; from 3 to early teens over a distance of 500 metres (Under 5) to 2km (5 – 15 years). Further information on dates etc, can be found @

Kindly note that the start time has changed to 7.15pm to reduce congestion in the clubhouse. Any questions, please contact Maia Rushby.

๐Ÿ“ข Clubhouse closure: From our Honorary Secretary, Trevor Maguire;

Weโ€™ve been approached by a film company about using our clubhouse as part of their base during filming in the local area. We are happy to help, for a fee. The downside is that we may not use the clubhouse on a Tuesday night. Most likely date now is 4th June. Nothing’s agreed yet but thought itโ€™d be good to give you all a heads up in case it happens.
