The final race in Andy Bickerstaff’s very popular summer trail series. Excerpt from the website below:
Stop Press; we now offer a 4.3 mile one lap option without prizes but with results and finishers mugs etc. Enter as usual but in the comments box put 1 lap or something similar! If you are feeling good on the day you can still continue and do the full race….
So, Good Run Guide brings you the third of three Wednesday evening trail races. This final race is a 2 lap course approximately 8 miles long loosely based on one of our recommended running routes through scenic and sometimes challenging parts of Wimbledon Common.
The start is at the iconic windmill and offers a mixture of adventure, fun and challenge all set on a traffic free route within the lovely Wimbledon Common. Large free car park at the start. The final race of the series follows an exciting and challenging course. Features include tackling the boggy Rifle Butts, running alongside bubbling Beverly Brook, and climbing the tricky ‘Toast Rack’. The run is designed so that it will be much tougher than your average road race but at the same time accessible to runners of all standards.

More details
HOW DOES A Handicap WORK? Rather than start everyone at the same time, a Handicap race sees each runner awarded an individual start time by the Handicapper based on their recent race performances. The runner with the most generous Handicap will set off first, with each subsequent runner starting at their allotted time. If the Handicapper has done their job, all runners should in theory end up finishing the race at roughly the same time. To ensure this is the case members must have run a minimum number of club events in order to be awarded a Handicap (and failing this they will compete as a guest). The first runner across the finishing line wins the Handicap.
Course
1 small lap (tbc) and 1 large lap (see below). Start and finish at the top of Queens Ride.
Prizes
Coad Cup
This trophy was donated to the club in 1947 by W H Coad who had won it outright in a 5 miles club steeplechase in 1882. The donor expressed a desire for the race to be held during the summer months. It was first competed for in 1948.
Prizes are awarded to the first three finishers, three fastest men and three fastest women.
