Race Report & Results : 2024 Epsom & Ewell Nonsuch Relays

Organised by our friends at Epsom & Ewell Harriers, Wednesday 19th June saw the ever popular Nonsuch Relays return, bringing with it the promise of an excellent evening of running; starting and finishing near the mansion house in beautiful Nonsuch Park.  A certain member of the Vets squad, one D. Lawley Esq., fraternal sibling of the sweet and talented Ellie Lawley, had this to report:

Another week, another exhilarating relay race for our club. Our captain conveniently leaves the organizing to me (apparently, he “despises” it), and this time, it almost wasn’t the Epsom & Ewell 3k Nonsuch relays on Wednesday, 19th. We’re a pedigreed bunch, and our entry caused quite a stir – they had to reopen registration because we caught them off guard!

Eight intrepid chaps, a seasoned team of seniors, and the reigning champions – the VETS – made their convoluted ways to Nonsuch Park. The weather was blissfully calm and warm, and the park itself was unrecognizable, thanks to the lush greenery and knee-high grass. Thankfully, one of the groundskeepers had meticulously mowed the course for the event, earning unanimous approval.

Both teams performed admirably, but the real showdown unfolded between our two Ranelagh squads. Joe Killip blazed through the course, overtaking “The Rocket” (El-presidente) Mockett on the final leg, securing 7th place overall. As for the defending VET champs, fate wasn’t on their side this time – Epsom & Ewell got their revenge after two years of trying. We graciously accepted 2nd place, acknowledging that they outclassed us.

Kudos to Epsom & Ewell for hosting yet another fantastic relay event, complete with an extra wiggle at the finish line. And as for me? Well, I promise to be more organized next year so we can rally the troops for this lung-busting challenge! 💪🏆

Senior Men: Ross MacDonald, Jonathan Moore, Chris Davidson & Joe Killip
